U11s Football Tournament

Each season The Football League organises an under 11s tournament for junior footballers from schools across the country, with the final being held at Wembley before  the Championship Play Off final.

Derby County in the Community held their local stage of the competition on the 20th January with 69 teams from local schools across the county taking part.

After an exciting day of competitive football Coton in the Elms Primary and Chellaston Junior School met in the final, having each won their respective group stages and remaining unbeaten through the knock out stages of the tournament. The final was a fast paced and end to end game, which saw Chellaston Junior School emerge eventual winners, beating their South Derbyshire rivals 3-2.

Richard Mansfield, Partnership Manager, said: “The tournament was a credit to all the schools who entered.  The standard of football played by all of the teams was very high, which resulted in an action packed day.  Also, it was fantastic to see schools from across the county competing against one another, with four different districts being represented in the quarter finals.”

Chellaston Junior School now go through to represent Derby County at the North Regional Finals, being held at Moor Farm Training Ground. They will play against schools representing Nottingham Forest, Leeds United, Leicester City and many more, with the winner of this stage progressing on to play on the hallowed turf of Wembley Stadium.
