Objectives - Sports Participation

Increase participation in Sport and develop talent pathways

Our Sports Participation programme will;

1. Increase grassroots participation in sports related activities throughout the county by 2.5% every year until 2014 delivering sessions to over 20,000 young people each year.
2. Identify 300 talented players for Derby County Football Club (DCFC) Academy, Derby County Centre of Excellence and grass roots charter standard clubs.

Derby County in the Community has over the past two years developed and diversified its core delivery programme; a fundamental reason behind this development  has been the need to offer young people greater choice. Our traditional programmes have remained popular throughout the 2009/10 academic year with;

* Over 30 after school programmes delivered a week involving over 600 children.
* 100 young people per day, each week participating in our holiday coaching sessions
* 400 youngsters training

A significant devlopment for the scheme during the 2009/10 season was being granted the licence to run the FA Centre of Excellence for Girls in Derbyshire. The Centre createselite pathways and playing opportunities for the best players in Derbyshire at under 10, 12, 14 and 16. The first season has been challenging but successful. The season finished in great style with under 14 players Sophie Baggaley, Porcia Badach and Amy Baker being selected to train with the England under 15 team.

A major challange for DCITC will be to sustain the current capacity within the programme. This will be vital if we are to meet the challenging targets set out within this business plan. The income generated through our programmes will be essential in ensuring the continued levels of performance. In the long term we will be driving participation levels and income generation in the process. With a 2.5% year on year increase in participation we must re-focus the delivery programme of current staff, managing their time effectively, ensuring we are efficient in our delivery programmes. With innovative delivery programmes, a clear marketing and promotions strategy linked with continued partnership working, we are confident that participation levels will grow.

A far more structured and formal approach will be taken to signposting of players with time and effort invested into formalising our relationship with the DCFC Academy. Communication between the two departments will improve with monthly meetings being undertaken. New relationships will be developed with Charter Standard Clubs to ensure that we have effective grass roots playing pathways.

As an organisation we have through Substance Software a monitoring and evaluation tool that will enable us to track progress against our business plan targets. Significant training has been undertaken by staff to ensure that we record the number of participations engaged across all our programmes as well as the frequency and journey they undertake. This information will be vital as it will not only be used to report to our Trustees but also demonstrate to potential funders the impact we have on our local community.
