Derby County Football Club and Derby County in the Community have been granted one of 30 national Football Association Centre of Excellence licences for the 2011/12 season. The centres running throughout England are an integral part of the FA's female player development pathway with youth international players selected from under 15 and 17 age groups. The Centre of Excellence programme is the pinnacle playing opportunity for players at under 11, 13, 15 and 17.

The "Philosophy" of the centre is to disseminate technical, tactical and theoretical information to each player stimulating the players learning. The coaching programme encompasses the principles of Long Term Player Development (LTPD) as set out in the FA LTPD introductory guide for Women and Girls' football.
