Further National recognition for the Centre of Excellence

Amy Baker

Continuing the massive success experienced by the Derby County Centre of Excellence in the 2009/10 season and into the start of the 2010/11, a true fairy tale story has emerged.

Amy Baker, who this time last year was 'out of the game' due to a persistent and ongoing injury that threatened her ability to even play the game she loves! A year on however, through the support of her parents and the management of her injury, Amy has been an ever-present member of the Under 14’s squad following her selection to the squad. Her performances, attitude and application befit that of a Centre of Excellence player and her call up to the latest England U15 training camp during the October half term was just reward for her efforts.

Pete Johnson, Centre Director said: "This is further justification of the way the Centre is being run here at Derby County and testament to Amy as she is an exceptional role model both on and off the field, with players within the centre looking up to her and the fact that this could be them one day, too."

"Everyone involved at the Centre and the Derbyshire FA would like to extend their congratulations to Amy and wish her the best of luck for the weeks' camp."

To aim for an England cap, girls must play in a Centre of Excellence, Derby County's being one of 52 around the country.

Last season, the Centre was able to boast two International players amongst its players in Sophie Baggaley and Portia Badach, the former of the two being involved in every squad since her selection this time last year., further indication of the profile that the Derby County Centre of Excellence is building.

Open trials for the Centre of Excellence take place in June and girls can be nominated by either their club or school.
