Disability

In 2007 we successfully secured from The Football Foundation and the Derbyshire County FA £187,550 to develop a five year programme for Disability Football. To support the development of our disability provision and to drive forward the delivery programme, we recruited Peter Collins as Disability Football Development Officer in September 2007.

The fundamental aims of the project centre on creating accessible opportunities for children and adults to participate in physical activity sessions. This will be primarily achieved through the creation of inclusive clubs throughout Derbyshire. The main aims and objectives of the programme are;

•    To ensure disabled people develop their full potential in sport through the medium of football
•    To ensure disabled people can develop their full potential through a County Disability Coaching Centre, targeting both junior (under 16) and senior (over 16) players
•    To create a database of Disability Football Workforce to support the whole Derbyshire Disability Football Plan
•    To develop a network of inclusive Charter Standard clubs, to provide greater involvement and access for disabled participants
•    Raising the Profile of DDFDG and Disabled Football in Derbyshire
•    To provide playing opportunities for all disabled players
•    To identify current and existing football provision throughout Derbyshire and monitor and track ongoing developments
•    To successfully apply and access Foundation Funding for the appointment of a full-time Disability Football Development Worker

Our Disability Officer delivers pan disability sessions on a weekly basis throughout Derby. Over the past 6 months Peter has worked to develop more activities and is currently in the process of developing programmes for sight and hearing impaired children and adults.

We regularly attend football festivals throughout the East Midlands competing against teams from Lincoln City, Notts County, Leicester City and Northampton Town. All the participants in our disability programme have the opportunity to represent Derby County in these festivals.
