New disability football session with Buxton Juniors Football Club

As part of the Derbyshire Inclusive Football Clubs programme, Buxton Juniors Football Club are starting a weekly coaching session for people with a disability to take part in the nations favourite game.

Great start to the new year with the start of the Winning Mentality Initiative football session at the Arc Leisure Centre in Matlock

In partnership with the Derbyshire Federation for Mental Health, Derby County in the Community have commenced a new football session as part of the Winning Mentality Initiative.

In 2007, Derby County in the Community secured funding to from the Football Foundation to develop a disability football programme over five years. In addition to this, in 2009 we were presented with funding by the Footballs Pools to run the Winning Mentality Initiative over 3 years, an exciting project helping people who have experienced mental health issues.

The players at Derby County in the Community’s Ability Counts disability football session were delighted to be joined by Mark O’Brien, first team player for the Rams, this week.
Derbyshire Disability Player Development Centre
The Derbyshire Disability Player Development Centre is now up and running, with regular training sessions being held at the University Of Derby. The centre currently has 13 players from the following impairment groups: Learning Disability, Cerebral Palsy, Deaf and Partially Sighted.
