Young Rock Winners Move Audience At Dance and Singing Final

The search has ended for The Movement’s 2011 dance and singing champions. Ammunition were crowned winners of the Rock Your Body Street Dance Challenge and Tamar Simpson (13) scooped the Rock Your Voice top title at an electrifying finale at Derby’s Assembly Rooms on 27 November.
They will receive Westfield vouchers, professional dance and vocal coaching and the chance to perform at a range of prestigious events across the region.
Rock Your Body second place was awarded to dance group Terminators, and Eccentrick and Reformed took joint third position.
27 groups and 22 singers entered the third annual competition organised by The Movement - a partnership between Derby County in the Community and Derby City Council.
Ammunition’s Rebecca Muir, Olivia Morton, Imogen Izzard and Leah Hill friends from different schools in the city were thrilled to win Rock Your Body. Leah said:
"I can't describe how amazing it is to win. We came second in last year's final so coming first is a massive achievement. All our hard work has paid off."
Rock Your Voice winner, Tamar Simpson from Saint Benedict Catholic School and Performing Arts College was also ecstatic and shocked to win.
A packed audience of over 800 friends and family cheered on the eight finalist dance groups and three singers. Local music producer, recording artist and DJ, Obe ‘Rukus’ Watson hosted the event which included show-stopping performances from The Movement’s dance co-ordinators, former winner and now professional dancer, Chantelle Richards and girls from the Step Up 2 Dance programme. A panel of industry experts judged the competition.
Sharon Dale, Project Manager for The Movement concluded:
“This event gives girls across Derbyshire the chance to aspire to something really great. Many of the girls taking part have never danced before or sung in front of an audience. Apart from boosting their confidence and exercise levels, it gives girls the chance to develop performance and presentation skills that will benefit them in later life. Tonight has been an amazing final and demonstrates what young people can achieve with support from The Movement.”
