Following on from the successful trials held in June, our squads at Under 10, 12, 14 and 16 have begun their pre-season training programme. We are extremely excited about the year ahead and look forward to the developments the players make throughout the season.
Derby County’s Community Team is working hard to unearth the next gem of Ladies Football in the Derby County Centre of Excellence for Girls. In the summer of 2009 Derby’s Community Department was allocated the Football Association Licence to host the Girls Centre of Excellence within Derbyshire. In our maiden season we have worked extremely hard to indentify the most talented players within Derbyshire to train and play at the centre.
Achieving the licence has been the culmination of a lot of great work undertaken by both Derby County in the Community and Derby County Football Club. This has included strengthening the links with Derby County Ladies Football Club and also hosting the 2008/09 Women’s FA Cup Final at Pride Park.
The aim of the Centre of Excellence, which is externally funded through the Football Association, is to develop elite players within Derbyshire finding them pathways into senior football. The ultimate ambition is to identify players to play for England; that is the dream. Having developed our links with the Ladies Team we are looking to signpost the best young players in Derbyshire into the senior team.
Our Centre of Excellence teams play at Under 10, 12, 14 and 16 level and already things are going very well.
